Robert Bagby photographs and other material 1948-1972

The Robert Bagby photographs and other material primarily consist of examples of Bagby's work. For instance, the collection includes several Grace Line travel publications, as well as other publications containing Bagby's work. There are also travel posters (mostly of New York City) and Christmas cards. Additionally, there are two Ektachrome transparencies that appear to have been used in one of Bagby's books. The collection also includes 31 photographs taken by Bagby. Many of these are travel scenes such as one of Mendenhall Glacier, in Juneau, AK. In addition to Bagby's works, the collection includes several pieces of biographical material. These include newspaper clippings and a paper on Bagby written by Paul Duran. There is also a case of lantern slides, presumably used by Bagby in his teaching. Papers of Robert C. Bagby, a former professor of photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Bagby worked as a commercial photographer for many years before teaching at RIT. The collection includes examples of Bagby's published work, photographs, and biographical information.

Robert C. Bagby (1896-1972) was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on October 16, 1896. After graduating from Springfield High School in 1914, Bagby attended the Illinois College of Photography. He graduated in 1916 and moved to New York City where he worked for Stadler Photographic Company. In 1933, Bagby left Stadler to open his own commercial photography business, Robert Bagby Inc.
